Current History
In History class, we are curently working on a review for chapter 12. Chapter 12 is a section that deals with China, India, and Japan. The lessons tell of arts, religion, and historical moments in each of the countries. The lesson also tells of how the country used to be run in earleir centuries. We have also talked some about Genghis Khan and his son, Kublai Khan. Genghis Khan was considered one of the greatest rulers. We have learned that Indian scientists made discoveries during their Golden Age and found that the size of the Moon and understood gravity long before the Europeans did. The lesson also had us learn about how some religions started, such as Buddhism, Hinduism, and Shintoism. We have learned about Tanka and Haiku poetry, which are a five-line poem with 31 syllables and a three-line poem with five syllables in the first line, seven in it's second line, and five syllables in it's thrid line, respecitvely. We have also learned about the isolation of China and Japan. Those countries, during a specific time, would not let anyone leave or enter their country. Japan believes that they are the center of the universe. They do not need foreign interaction. They believe they can make whatever it is they could ever possibly need. They also believe they are the source of the sun. We have also learned how Japan being surrounded by water has effected their history by keeping invaders out and allowing them to get ideas from Korea. We have also learned about some of the items the Chinese has invented. Such as printing, the compass, abacus, gunpowder, the clock, and a machine to detect, or discover, earthquakes. We have also learned about Feudalism in Japan, and the order of importance of people who lived in feudal Japan. Emporer's were the highest ranked members in feudal Japan, but they had no power. The Shoguns had all the power. Merchants were the lowest ranked members of society.external image old_map_wall_clock.jpg We also learned about Samurai soldiers. These Samurai lived their whole life by Bushido, the Japanese code of honor. If a Samurai lost their honor, they would commit Hari-Kari. Hari-Kari believed to bring back honor in death.
